CLEARWATER, Fla. — A 16-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder following a shooting that injured a teenager during a large “teen takeover” event at Clearwater Beach on Sunday evening.
Authorities identified the suspect as Noel Marsh III, who was taken into custody Monday night at his residence in Haines City. He faces charges including attempted second-degree murder, discharging a firearm in public, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor.
According to Clearwater police, the shooting occurred around 5:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Coronado Drive during a gathering that had been organized through social media. Investigators said a dispute between two groups escalated into violence, resulting in multiple gunshots being fired.
The 17-year-old victim sustained gunshot wounds to the leg, arm, and chest and was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital. Officials reported that the injuries were non-life-threatening.
Deputy Police Chief Michael Walek said the conflict originated from an ongoing dispute between individuals who knew each other, stemming from social media disagreements and party-related rivalries that began approximately one month earlier in Winter Haven.
Investigators believe Marsh fired seven rounds during the confrontation. Authorities noted that despite the crowded beach environment, no bystanders were struck.
“This senseless act of violence could have resulted in a much greater tragedy,” Walek said, emphasizing the danger posed to numerous people attending the event.
Police also arrested a separate 17-year-old from Brandon who allegedly fled the scene. He faces charges of resisting an officer without violence, carrying a concealed firearm, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue gathering evidence and reviewing witness statements.
