Two People Killed in Devastating Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-69 Southbound

A tragic multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 69 southbound in Allen County claimed the lives of two motorists on the afternoon of June 3, 2026, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers responded at approximately 1:54 p.m. to the area near the 295 mile marker following reports of a serious collision involving six vehicles, including three passenger cars and three semi trucks.

Preliminary findings indicate that a southbound semi truck struck a passenger vehicle that was stopped in traffic, setting off a chain-reaction crash. The impact caused multiple subsequent collisions involving additional passenger vehicles and commercial trucks. One passenger vehicle was forced off the roadway, while others became trapped in the sequence of crashes.

Authorities confirmed that the drivers of passenger car #1 and passenger car #2 were pronounced deceased at the scene. Their identities have not yet been publicly released pending notification of family members.

The driver of the semi truck believed to have initiated the collision was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

Investigation Continues as Interstate Remains Closed

Emergency personnel, crash reconstruction teams, and highway crews remained at the scene for several hours following the collision. According to officials, southbound I-69 near the 296 mile marker was expected to remain closed until at least 8:00 p.m. as investigators processed evidence and crews worked to clear the wreckage.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Additional information, including the identities of the victims and potential contributing factors, is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while emergency operations remained underway.
